ViGO Q&A

Q: What is ViGO?
A:
ViGO is a portable unit with a USB interface for easy connection to a PC or laptop that runs on VCON vPoint software. It is a non-invasive personal videoconferencing appliance for both desktop and laptop configurations.

Q: Why ViGO?
A:
As Video over IP is gaining momentum and corporations  are beginning to install hundreds of endpoints on their Intranets,  VCON has introduced a non-invasive product that will reduce the  costs associated with desktop videoconferencing, while simplifying  installation and maintenance.

A: ViGO is not IRQ or VGA-board related and therefore installation is immediate and can be done by any user.

A: Many of our customers have requested a higher performance desktop solution. ViGO features superior audio and video quality with respect to our current desktop products.

Q: Does the ViGO software, vPoint have any unique characteristics?
A:
Yes. When ViGO™is attached to a PC or laptop with vPoint  running, it will perform all of the video and audio processing  in the ViGO™hardware, except the video decoding, and will use  the ViGO camera (either the standard camera or the PTZ camera) as the video input. It will use the ViGO Speaker Tower, multimedia speakers or headset as the audio input  (whichever the user has connected). This mode is desirable for optimal quality, especially with PCs slower than 2.0 GHz. When a USB camera is attached to a PC with vPoint running, it will  give the user full videoconferencing capability and will use the  PC for the video and audio processing. When there is no camera  attached to a PC with vPoint running, it will put the user into  Viewer+ mode. In this mode the local user sees the remote side's  video and hears their audio. But the remote side only hears the local user's audio. So, it gives 2-way audio and 1-way video.

Q: What operating system(s) does ViGO support?
A:
The ViGO will be supported in both Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP environments because these are the operating systems that have native USB support.

Q: Where does ViGO fit into the VCON product family?
A:
ViGO is VCON's third IP-only videoconferencing product, but differs from the other IP-only products (Escort and Falcon IPTM) in that it is the only product that can be connected to a laptop and the only desktop product that is external to the PC. It is equipped with the same PacketAssistTM features that  are common to all of VCON's products and supports Interactive  Multicast enabling participation in interactive streaming sessions  with other VCON endpoints.

Q: Will ViGO replace any current VCON products?
A:
On the contrary, ViGO is complementary  to VCON's other products. ViGO is targeted at markets  where performance, ease of use and ease of maintenance are top priority. ViGO is an addition to the Escort and not  a replacement. Escort will still be our product of choice where  Windows NT is the operating system and where users would like an internal solution.

Q: How will ViGO change the way the market perceives desktop videoconferencing?
A:
Thanks to ViGO's USB interface, you no longer need to crack open your PC and insert a videconferencing  card. Thus, ease of installation has been dramatically enhanced, as has ease of maintenance and service. In addition, ViGO is portable, so users can take it with them into the field and  connect via any Internet connection when they wish to participate in a videoconference.

Q: My desktop/laptop has a single USB port that would be occupied by ViGO.
How can I use other USB devices and ViGO™at the same time?
A:
ViGO has an integrated USB hub for the attachment of other USB devices.

Q: Can I use a different camera for ViGO?
A:
Yes, ViGO has an alternate composite video  input.

Q: Can I use a variety of audio input devices
(microphone, speakerphone, headset, etc.)?
A:
Yes, ViGO has three audio input device  options:

1) the microphone located in the Philips camera,
2) an optional headset and
3) a composite audio input, i.e. VCR.

Q: Will there be any type of carrying case that will be  included or optional with ViGO?
A:
Yes, ViGO comes standard with a padded  nylon carrying case, compartmentalized for traveling. Because we know that it is important to be able to travel light, VCON designed the carrying case, with all parts of the unit in it,  to weigh less than 4 lbs.
