VCON Technology

4Downloads 4Support

Since 1997, when VCON invented the first IP-only desktop videoconferencing system, VCON has been developing and creating technologies that make videoconferencing over large organizational networks easier and more manageable. VCON's technologies and architectures reach  out over VCON's entire videoconferencing product line creating  a unique set of solutions that provide users with the highest-quality  experience, while also providing network administrators with the  tools they need to maintain and service their video network.

The main technologies that span across the VCON videoconferencing  product line are VCON PacketAssist™ architecture and VCON  Interactive Multicast technology. When organizations incorporate  and use these technologies, they find a solution that is more than just videoconferencing. It is a robust network application  that encompasses videoconferencing, streaming video and more.

Interactive Multicast Technology

Interactive Multicast technology allows uses to actively participate in streaming video for the first time. It enables the multicasting  of audio and video to participants using VCON endpoints or IP  multicast viewers, while allowing any participant using a VCON  endpoint to fully interact during the conference. Endpoints not running VCON MeetingPoint or vPoint software can load VCON's Broadcast  Viewer onto their PCs, free of charge and can passively watch  VCON Interactive Multicasts at data rates up to 1.5Mbps.

VCON's Interactive Multicast technology is particularly beneficial in corporate communications, training and distance learning settings. VCON's Interactive Multicast uses standard IP multicast technology running on a standard VCON H.323 client to add an interactive  component to a formerly one-way only streaming video technology. Combining VCON's Interactive Multicast technology, Broadcast Viewer,  desktop endpoints and group systems, organizations now have a total solution for videoconferencing and streaming video that  is cost effective and easy to use.

vPoint users can Chair an Interactive Multicast, allowing them to stream video and audio from their desktop  or laptop. The multicast session is easily controlled from the Conference tab on the user interface.

MediaConnect 9000 users can Chair an Interactive Multicast from their conference room or boardroom. When a Participant has the floor, the Chair will know because the user's name will be highlighted. The Chair has the ability to grant the floor to any Participant, or to reclaim the floor from any Participant.

VCON PacketAssist

VCON PacketAssist™ architecture features a suite of tools and capabilities that remove many obstacles to Video over IP deployment. In the past, many companies shied away from using their in-house networks for multimedia applications due to issues concerning Quality of Service (QoS) and available bandwidth. PacketAssist™ automatically adapts to the network, while ensuring that users experience the best possible audio and video performance.

PacketAssist™'s Adaptive Bandwidth Adjustment and many QoS features ensure that if there is the possibility of network congestion,  the audio and video will be optimized so that the end user experiences the best quality possible. VCON PacketAssist™ architecture is embedded into each of VCON's endpoints, from desktop to group  systems. For more information about PacketAssist™, download  the VCON PacketAssist™ White Paper.
